Cumberland Co. Department of Social Services Under the supervision of the C.C. Department of Social Services, the C.C. Group Care program operates two residential facilities. Each group home provides 24 hour supervised care for times when an out-of-home placement is necessary. The Right Track and Safe Landing group homes serve youth in Cumberland County. The Group Care program serves youth ages 12-16 years old and who are at-risk of increasing involvement in the juvenile justice system due to previous or continued delinquency problems. The ultimate goal of the Group Care program is successful reunification with the family. The Group Care program places a large emphasis on the educational needs of the youth in the program. All youth are required to attend school. The Group Care staff encourage the youth to become involved in after-school activities and organized team sports. The Group Care staff works closely with the youth’s teachers and school officials to ensure that progress is made academically and with the youth’s behavior. Tutorial services are arranged for youth that are not reaching their full academic potential. The program also collaborates with community programs to address the needs of the youth. The Juvenile Assessment Center and Find-A-Friend
are among the programs that collaborate with the C.C. Group Care program. The Group Care involves the parents or guardians in monthly meetings to discuss the youth’s progress. Counseling is available to the parents and family to improve the home environment. The Group Care staff take an active role in mentoring the youth at each of the Group Care homes. The youth participate in Family hour to discuss the days events and current news as they each sit down to dinner together. Each youth is given the opportunity to lend a helping hand to others during study time to provide peer based tutoring. Educational field trips are provided for the youth. They often visit museums, the Fayetteville Observer and historical sites. For more information, please contact David Harvey at 423-9869.
